The V Foundation for Cancer Research’s annual Napa Valley fundraiser, the V Wine Celebration, garnered more than $5 million over the weekend of Aug. 4-7 for cancer research. With a $500,000 matching grant from the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the total included more than $2 million in “fund-a-need” donations to support prostate cancer research. The theme for this year’s gala event, “Laugh, Think, Cry,” was taken from the late North Carolina basketball coach and ESPN commentator Jim Valvano’s 1993 speech at the inaugural ESPY awards.
